The University of Portsmouth is delighted to announce a call for applications to a bursary funded PhD on the use of social media in tobacco control, for early 2015 entry (UK or EU students only). The funded bursary is available for three years full-time study.
We anticipate collaboration with Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Wales with whom we have a close working relationship. The candidate should expect to spend some time working alongside our colleagues at ASH Wales, conducting empirical research.
Candidates should expect to conduct interviews or focus groups with users, designers and developers of social media used in raising awareness of the implications of tobacco consumption (e.g. twitter, facebook, participative websites). There will also be an opportunity to work with social media analytics to gain quantitative insights.
Applicants for the PhD programme are expected to have a good first degree (minimum upper second class Honours degree or equivalent) and ideally a Masters (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Liz Twigg (Reader in Human Geography).
