Job Title: Archives Manager

Organisation: Bristol Aero Collection Trust

Salary: up to £26,500 pa

Position: Permanent full-time (part-time/job share may be possible)

Responsible to: Collections Manager

Location: Filton, Bristol

This is a truly exciting opportunity for an experienced Archivist to be part of the new Bristol Aerospace Centre, opening in 2017.  The plans include the provision of an archive repository to PD5454 standards, a reading room and office space on the ground floor of the Concorde building.

The substantial company archive dates from 1910 and includes glass negatives, minute books, drawings on waxed linen and film. The collections management is at an early stage of its development, with a Collections Conservation Management Plan submitted for the Trust's successful second-round HLF application. The archive is a very significant element of the overall collections of the Trust.

The vision for the Centre is to create an aerospace museum and learning centre in Filton which inspires, entertains and informs present and future generations through their understanding of, and engagement with, the stories and collections of Bristol’s aerospace industry – past, present and future.

The post-holder will be a part of the collections management team and will manage and direct the work of the archive volunteers. The Archivist is responsible for introducing and delivering high standards of collections management to ensure that all the archival material is managed and conserved to meet recognised archive and museum standards. The archive will be extensively used to provide information for the museum exhibition over the next two years.

The successful candidate will have a passion for archives and will have already have substantial experience of the archive sector. The capability to lead a team of volunteers is essential, as is being people focused and outcome orientated.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Tuesday 3 February 2015. For full details of the role and the application procedure please email [log in to unmask]

The Trust is grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Pilgrim Trust for their generous grants towards this post.  Bristol Aero Collection Trust is an equal opportunities employer. Registered Charity No. 1010632
