In this position you will develop and carry out independent research, contributing as a team member to the Cancer Research UK project (“Development and application of statistical methods to maximize the increased opportunities made available in the UK with more detailed population-based cancer data”. The post will involve the development and application of statistical methods using population-based cancer data. The post will require expertise in biostatistics/medical statistics/applied statistics.

It is an exciting time for cancer epidemiology with increasing  quantity and quality of cancer data in the UK, with the ability to answer new and more detailed research questions. Appropriate use of this data will help improve the understanding of prognosis after a cancer diagnosis. The use of more detailed data brings many challenges for appropriate development and application of statistical methods. In particular, more complex analysis makes communication of results more challenging and more thought is needed to present complex analysis in ways that ensure key messages are understood by health care professionals, patients and decision makers. The group has a track record of developing and applying novel statistical methods for the analysis of cancer registry data.

The work will further develop and apply flexible parametric survival models for use in population-based cancer studies.

You will have a PhD (or relevant MSc plus equivalent research experience) in a relevant area (medical statistics / cancer epidemiology) and be able to provide evidence of research productivity (including high-quality research publications, presentations)
