Forthcoming research methods courses from the EPPI-Centre, UCL Institute of Education, University College London

1. Research Engagement, Participation, and Impact
(previously called Participative Research and Policy)

Gain knowledge and skills to help maximise the impact of research in addressing issues of concern to the public, practitioners and policymakers. This online course runs for 15 weeks from 14 January 2015. The deadline for applications is 15 December 2014.

With an increased expectation on researchers to justify and articulate the impact of their research on wider society, the module will have a broad appeal to social science students who are planning a career in research. It will also be of interest to policymakers and practitioners in public and voluntary services. The module will draw on theoretical literature and systematic reviews of the area to provide a broad base of understanding.

Fees start from £670. Further details from http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/MSc/prp

2. Systematic reviews for policy and practice: conducting and using reviews
In this course you will learn in tutor-led workshops on 17-18 March and 14-15 April 2015, with self-directed study before and between workshops. The deadline for applications is 9 February 2015.

The course will enable you to conduct and appraise systematic reviews. On completion, you will be familiar with the strengths and limitations of systematic reviews and have a critical appreciation of evidence-informed policy and practice. Participation includes access to our specialised systematic review software EPPI-Reviewer.

Fees start from £670. Further details from http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/MSc/srpp

What different ways of studying are open to me? All of our modules can be taken as stand-alone courses with or without credit. All are quality assured at Masters level by the UCL Institute of Education. Some of our courses can be taken entirely at a distance, but others are taught using face-to-face sessions for students who prefer this style of learning.

Who takes our courses? Our recent short course and MSc students have come from a wide range of policy sectors, including health, but also social work, education and International Development. Both MScs will be of interest to recent graduates. To enrol for the MSc or for Masters level credits you will usually need a second-class degree in health, education or another area of social science or policy, or have another professional qualification e.g. for teaching, police force, health care, social work. If you have other kinds of qualifications you may be eligible but we may ask you to take a qualifying test. You will need to be able to communicate in English and have online access (see webpages below for full detail).
