----------------------------------
The
Centre
for Global Health is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a
PhD
scholarship in the Health Research Board funded Trials
Methodology Research
Network (TMRN). This
particular
Scholarship is provided by the School of Medicine at Trinity
College Dublin.
The HRB-TMRN is a
partnership between NUI Galway, University College Cork, Trinity
College
Dublin, Queen’s University Belfast, University College Dublin
and the
University of Leeds. The overall mission of the HRB-TMRN is to
strengthen trial
methodology and reporting on the island of Ireland, through a
programme of
work, which will also impact elsewhere in the UK and
internationally. This will
be achieved through a focus on three high-level activities
relating to the
methodology of trials (i) support (ii) training and education
and (iii)
research and innovation.
This
three-year, fully funded studentship is available immediately.
The successful
candidate will join the PhD Global Health programme in the
Centre for Global
Health, Trinity College Dublin. The PhD Global Health is a
doctoral training
programme that aims to provide promising early-stage researchers
with a world
class experience and scholarship. By the end of their doctoral
training,
students will have gained first-hand knowledge and experience of
conducting
practical research in the areas of health systems strengthening,
human
resources for health, and equitable access to health care.
The
successful candidate will undertake a PhD project in the field
of trials
methodology. More specifically, the successful candidate’s
research should
focus on the dissemination of trial results, with an emphasis on
the contextual
factors that support and/or thwart both the dissemination and
implementation of
trial research findings. The lead Supervisor will be Dr Fiona
Larkan (Trinity
College Dublin) with Prof Eilish McAuliffe (University College
Dublin) acting
as co-supervisor; the student will also be able to draw on the
expertise of
other members of the HRB-TMRN and members of the Centre for
Global Health.
Scholarships include an annual
stipend of €16,000,
up to €2,500 annually towards project costs, a small travel
allowance, and fees
(at EU rates). Scholarships are
available for up to 3 years (full-time) and students will enroll
in the School
of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, for the PhD Global Health
Programme, which
includes access to relevant modules on the Masters in Global
Health.
The HRB-TMRN acknowledges
the value to the student of carrying out part of their research
in another
University or Institution or in the field and encourages
collaboration with the
Medical Research Council (MRC, UK) Hubs for Trials
Methodology Research. Placement opportunities will be sought
within one or
more of these hubs. This will help the students to gather
diverse data for
their research, and broader experience for their future careers.
This will also
allow students to benefit from interactions with a broader group
of students
working on trial methodology research. A separate travel bursary
is available to
support this activity.
Applicants
can
submit their concept note or proposals effective immediately and
must meet
the following requirements:
