Well there is something wrong in your comment, there is effectively not much difference between creating reports in SSRS and creating them in Report Builder. Unless you have a BI box which does some of the heavy lifting for you by building the datasources overnight (something that ProSolution can do for you as well), and then both SSRS and Report Builder would use the cached datasources. We run all our stuff straight off the main DB server and it's all "live", though it is something we want to look at, at the moment we can throw resources at the problem and that is cheaper than throwing cash at more developers/development time. We did implement Qlikview which is a well known BI development solution. The trouble is it requires a lot of developer time to deploy and then manage, its expensive as well, even for just a few client licenses.

This from our web developer ...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We added more memory and processors.

I also tweaked the application pool settings to recycle more efficiently/often. This does not affect sessions as they will wait for sessions to end before recycling.

I was not aware that we had this issue. Our problem was large processor/memory load on concurrent requests.

If the report is created in report builder, I thought that it was being generated in SSRS and just displayed/proxyed through PS web. In this case it is the DB server that needs beefing as well as the Web server, unless they are running both on the same box :-(

Yes that would be helpful.

Apparently, we have beefed up out servers but it sounds to me like we cannot run large reports developed in report builder and then published to PS web, that they need to be developed separately in say SSRS.

Thanks for responding.

We did have this problem

We just chucked more resources at the web server which meant that it didn't timeout so quickly in the usual application pool refreshes.

If you want I can get a more detailed account of the measures we put in place from our IT guys?

Hello
Does anyone else get a timeout on their prosolution Web?

Ever since we have moved to using PS Web our registers intermittently timeout and staff are unhappy about this.

Compass have acknowledged that there is some sort of memory leak and it's related to reports. When this happens the application pool reaches its max on the Web server and causes the timeout knocking everyone off.

Although compass have acknowledged this they have yet to provide a solution and also say no other college has this issue.

So, does anyone have this issue, we can't be alone in running PS web reports and registers (max c300 staff would access at anyone time)?

Amrik
