Dear Colleagues,

The Altmetric Top 100 of 2014 is here!

As the year draws to a close, we've taken a look back through the Altmetric database to identify which research articles received the most attention online over the last 12 months.

From studies on the speed of chocolate consumption on hospital wards, to new evidence establishing the origins of the recent Ebola outbreak, the list features quite a mixture of research from around the world.

Visit http://www.altmetric.com/top100 to view the full list.

Based on mentions from sources tracked by Altmetric, including mainstream news, blogs, social media, post-publication peer-review forums and platforms such as Reddit and YouTube, articles that capture the public imagination or spark debate feature prominently.

You can filter the list by journal, discipline, institutional affiliation and country - and click on the Altmetric donut visualisations to see the full details of online mentions for each article.

Further detail on the methodology used to compile the list and a summary of key points is available on our blog at http://www.altmetric.com/blog/altmetric-top-100-2014/.

Feel free to email us ([log in to unmask]) or tweet us @altmetric with any feedback about the list – we’d love to know what you think.

Kind regards,
Cat Chimes
