Dear all,

I would like to follow up on the announcement from Steve Rooney last week, regarding the new International Consortium for Academic Language and Learning Development (see below).

As Secretary of ALDinHE I would like to explain how we propose to ensure that our members can benefit from the reciprocal arrangements with AALL, ATLAANZ and LSAC.

I shall share several times a year a reduced membership list with the Secretaries of our partner associations, in order that they may verify the membership status of anyone who asks to take advantage of the reciprocal benefits (eg joining discussion groups, accessing resources, applying for members' rates, etc).

  • For Individual Members, this list will comprise name and email address. (If your email address differs from the one you provided originally, please confirm details to [log in to unmask] )

  • For Institutional Members, this list will comprise institution name and the institutional email suffix (eg @londonmet.ac.uk ). Any employee of the institution who makes contact using a bona-fide institutional email address will be accepted.

I intend to share the first lists on Friday 5th December 2014. If any individual does not wish their details described above to be shared, please let me know on [log in to unmask] . You may opt out, but will then not be eligible to access the reciprocal benefits.

Finally - why are you receiving this email? ALDinHE uses its LDHEN Jiscmail list as a primary communication channel with its members. If you (or your institution) are not yet members of ALDinHE, it is not too late! Full details are on our website http://www.aldinhe.ac.uk/index.php?p=2

Further information on the International Consortium and our partner associations can be found via the links in Steve's original email below.

Best wishes,

David

Subject: Exciting news from ALDinHE

Dear all,

Hope this finds well. On behalf of the Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE), I'm delighted to be able to announce news of the following exciting new development...

A new International Consortium for Academic Language and Learning Development

ALDinHE has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with equivalent associations in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, which will substantially increase the range of resources and opportunities for our members.

The Australian Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL), the Association of Tertiary Learning Advisors of Aotearoa New Zealand (ATLAANZ) and the Learning Specialists Association of Canada (LSAC) have agreed to extend their own membership benefits to members of ALDinHE. This will include access to websites, online discussion forums, learning resources and publications, as well as the possibility to attend their conferences and events at members' reduced rates. A further benefit of the agreement is the collective wish to pursue, facilitate and support collaborative research, and the sharing of evidence-based practice.

Details of these reciprocal benefits can be found in the Memorandum of Agreement (http://aldinhe.ac.uk/consortium.html) and on the websites of the partner associations:
http://aall.org.au ; http://www.atlaanz.org   ;  http://www.learningspecialists.ca

Access to reciprocal benefits from AALL, ATLAANZ and LSAC is only open to current members of ALDinHE. Individual members will be identified by name and email address; institutional members will be identified by a bona fide email address from a member institution. ALDinHE will make these details available to the secretaries of the partner associations. Individuals who do not wish their name to appear on these lists may opt out by contacting [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> but this means they will not be eligible to access the reciprocal benefits.

If you or your institution are not currently members of ALDinHE, now is the ideal time to take out membership. Visit http://www.aldinhe.ac.uk/index.php?p=2 for full details.

I hope you agree that this new partnership agreement with our friends in Australia, New Zealand and Canada holds many exciting opportunities for the learning development community.  This represents a new era in ALDinHE's increasing engagement nationally and internationally. I hope you will find this useful.

ALDinHE wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to our international partners for working with us to make this possible. The Association would also like to extend a special thanks to our Secretary, David Bowers, for all his excellent work in helping to put together the Memorandum.

With best regards,

Steve Rooney
