Dear list members

This may be of particular interest to those list members concerned with water-power and water management aspects of industrial archaeology.

Micro-hydroelectric power generation schemes are becoming ever more popular. These can often provide a new purpose to historic buildings and structures (such as mills), however, if the installation of such equipment is not planned and implemented with the historic significance of its site in mind, they can sometimes unintentionally have negative effects on the historic site or building. English Heritage has produced a good practice document for owners and their contractors considering installation.

You can access a free download from the English Heritage website:

This is part of our wider efforts to understand and protect the significance of historic water management assets. You can find out more about the wider strategic approach to this from our National heritage Protection Plan page on the topic .
