Dear all,

I am forwarding this, which went to the RAS Fellows' mailing list,
to alert GeolSoc BGA members and non-members on this list
to the opportunity for funding for unusual outreach projects
from the Royal Astronomical Society. Note you need to find
a RAS Fellow to back up an application, but if you have an idea
and haven't got a colleague in the RAS, let us know.

("us" is the two Sheilas, Sheila Peacock, Geophysics list co-owner,
and Sheila Kanani, the RAS' new Education, Outreach and
Diversity Officer.)

Regards,
Sheila Peacock,
list co-owner.

Call for outline proposals for RAS200 – deadline 2^nd February 2015

As many of you will know, the Royal Astronomical Society is running a major outreach and engagement programme, RAS 200: Sky and Earth, to commemorate the Society’s 200th anniversary in 2020. The programme was formally launched at the RAS AGM in May.

With a budget of £1 million its aim is to fund around 10 projects, with up to £100,000 available for each programme. The first stage of the RAS200 grants scheme opened for applications on the 1^st December 2014, with applicants invited to submit outline proposals by the closing date of _2^nd February 2015_.

The application forms are available on our website (see http://www.ras.org.uk/200/2520-outline-proposal) and, unlike in most public engagement schemes, there are few prerequisites on the types of project that are eligible for consideration. Applications are encouraged from consortia that include everyone from community organisations to leading scientists, but each application must have an associated RAS Fellow.

From the outline applications a panel will select up to 12 proposals to go forward for more detailed applications. Up to 6 of these will be awarded grants, with the winners announced at the RAS AGM in May 2015. A second round of funding is expected to be available for 2016.

_The deadline for applications is 23:59 (GMT), 2^nd February 2015_and a full description of RAS 200 is available at http://www.ras.org.uk/200

Regards

Dr Sheila Kanani
