ISO Committee Drafts for the three new standards listed below have been published for comment.

ISO/CD 18400-202 Soil quality – Sampling – Preliminary Investigations
ISO/CD 18400-203 Soil quality – Sampling – Investigation of potentially contaminated sites
ISO/CD 18400-204 Soil quality – Sampling – Investigations for soil gas
Decisions as to whether to adopt any of these International Standards as British Standards, will be made at a later date.
18400-202 might be a useful complement to BS 10175 because it covers a wider range of sites than BS10175 (e.g. agricultural sites).
18400-203 and 18400-204 overlap with BS10175 and BS8576 respectively and are unlikely therefore to be adopted as British Standards. However, UK consultants may be expected to follow them when working in other countries and it is therefore important that they are as technically sound as possible.
