Dear colleagues,
We use Randstad to employee our (mostly) band 1 and 2 non-medical support workers (primarily notetakers and buddies). Following the introduction of the role descriptors we are having some difficulties receiving payment from SFE for certain support. In particular this is when students receive typed notes (not electronic notes) These are notes that we understand to now fall into band 3 'specialist transcription service'. Randstad have assigned them as such on their database/invoicing system. SFE however are inconsistent in their willingness to pay these invoices. Some are approved, the majority are being queried because DSA2 letters are not saying 'specialist transcription service'; however we don't see any other option for typed notes in the bandings and because of the inconsistency with the responses from SFE we aren't clear as to what SFE understand to be covered by this descriptor.

Is anyone else having this challenge? How are others dealing with the typed notes support (not electronic notetaking). Is the only solution to ask Needs assessors to reframe the support recommended on the DSA2 as specialist transcription? Even when we've gone back with recommendations ourselves to SFE we are getting confusing responses - we've actually been told there isn't the option for typed notes at all anymore.

I would be grateful to hear how other colleagues are dealing with this challenge (or indeed if it is just us facing it!).
many thanks,
Lesley
