This looks like an updated & more sophisticated version of equipment that was developed in the coal mining industry for measuring the mine atmosphere remotely on the surface. Known as the Tube Bundle system it was developed prior to the early 1970s & a description of the system & its mode of employment is attached. Carbon monoxide and methane were generally the parameters measured but this could be supplemented by e.g. oxygen if necessary. It could also be used to monitor the air behind stoppings which was particularly useful if an area had been sealed due to spontaneous combustion or a fire & removed the necessity for manual sampling in possibly dangerous situations. In many cases the Tube Bundle systems were displaced by solid state sensor based methods sited underground which provided readings without delay but suffered from increased maintenance effort in potentially remote areas underground. I recall that the old British Coal Scientific Service at TES Bretby developed the technique for wider commercial use and the example you circulated may be one of those.

Can anybody help? This (photo attached) was found in the basement of a building and the owner believes it is some sort of landfill gas monitoring device. Can anyone spread any light on what it may be?
Kind Regards
