We are Managed Hosted and I have just been dealing with the MH team over the same issue.

With some difficulty on the MH side they indicate that they have managed to find logs for the past month (they cannot go back further) on when an email was sent to a particular person but not what the content of that email is......we'll need to go to our internal mail relay server to see if we can find the actual content of the email.

Hi Alex, emails aren't saved anywhere - they are just sent directly out, the email log has what (subject) was sent to who - but no content.

The internal messages thing is kept in the file system but isn't too clever in terms of user interaction

Subject: Blackboard send email tool

Hi all

Just a quick one - I recently delivered some training to a new member of staff who was very used to using Moodle. She used to use Moodle to send a fair few emails from the system out to users, and intends to use Blackboard for the same thing, but had one question: apparently, in Moodle, these emails would remain in the VLE, so a user could return to Moodle later on and check the message, without necessarily having to search through inboxes or worry they'd deleted it.

My first response is that Blackboard doesn't do that; it has its own internal message feature (which we don't really use or push here) but even that I'm not sure will do the same thing; though please correct me if I'm wrong! I did tell the member of staff I'd just check this, as the sent emails do have to go *somewhere*. Or, perhaps they don't?!

I'm just wondering if that's somewhere is a strange place deep in the database, or do they perhaps stay in the content collection? I'm not massively hopeful about this, but thought I'd see what your responses were...

Thanks, best
Alex
