Project Outreach Officer

4 year contract (January 2015 – December 2018)

 

West Yorkshire Archive Service has been awarded £3.9m of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to create a new permanent home for Wakefield’s archives. We are looking for an Outreach Officer to implement the project’s Activity Plan.

 

The successful candidate will work with communities, schools, colleges and other groups in Wakefield and adjacent districts, including former mining communities, reconnecting communities with their archives, developing larger and more diverse audiences, and encouraging greater use of the collections.

 

Along with experience of working with archive collections, the successful candidate will have worked with school and local community groups in a local government or voluntary sector environment. They will have experience of giving public talks, facilitating workshops and planning, and implementing and evaluating projects. Ideally they will have worked with community groups on local heritage projects and delivered training.

 

Educated to degree level, they will have good communication skills and an understanding of the learning opportunities offered by heritage and archive projects.

 

A current driving licence or the ability to travel around points within the Wakefield district is essential.

 

Some weekend and evening work will be required.

 

Project Archive Assistant (Heritage)

Salary : WY03 salary range £15,882 to £16,998 per annum
Hours: 37:00hrs/week
Based at: Wakefield and Morley, Leeds
4 year contract (January 2015 – December 2018)

 

As part of the HLF project, West Yorkshire Archive Service is also looking for an Archive Assistant. They will support the work of the project, developing collections information and assisting with the delivery of the Activity Plan.

 

Assisting the Project Archivist, they will help bring catalogues and archive collections information up to date. They will also assist the Project Outreach Officer working with community, school, volunteers and other groups,

The successful candidate will have good customer care skills, a knowledge of relevant ICT systems, administrative experience and 4 GCSE passes (Grade A, B or C) or equivalent, including English and a numeracy based subject. Experience of how archive services operate and a knowledge of local history would be an advantage. An ability to lift boxes is essential.

 

The post is for the duration of the HLF project (January 2015 to December 2018)

 

Some weekend and evening work will be required.
