Hi Terry
We have a POCT budget line and cross charge. In summary, we invoice with an annual support bill comprising fixed costs (EQA, IT licences etc) and POCT staff resource costs (estimate of time required for training,
audit, troubleshooting etc). POCT consumables are billed at the end of each quarter based on actual amounts supplied.
We provide estimates before services are implemented and the clinical area decide whether upstream/downstream savings are realistic. The process includes peer review for clinical appropriateness etc .
Best wishes
Emma

Subject: Charging for POCT service
Dear Mailbase,
How many POCT units/departments run their own distinct budget line for POCT services and/or if any operate a business model of charging users a 'levy' for the POCT services provided?
If so, on what basis was this levy calculated and what factors were included (e.g. downstream cost savings from less clinic time etc)?
Thanks
