Subject: <unlike-us> Research Assistant positions for Snowden/surveillance
project in Cardiff, UK

Dear all,

the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies (JOMEC) is
looking to appoint two Research Assistants for the project "Digital
Citizenship and Surveillance Society: UK State-Media-Citizen Relations After
the Snowden Leaks".

The project aims to explore the nature, opportunities and challenges of
digital citizenship in light of the Snowden revelations, see
http://blogs.cardiff.ac.uk/dcssproject/. It is connected to Unlike Us as
several of the researchers and advisory board members have been active
Unlike Us participants. We are planning a conference next June and will try
to link it with Unlike Us activities.

One of the two Research Assistants will conduct research on the technical
infrastructure of digital surveillance and on technical tools and software
solutions that protect privacy. The other will focus on the media
representation of the Snowden leaks, narratives of online surveillance, and
challenges to press freedom in light of the Snowden leaks.

The positions are part-time and for a fixed term of 12 months (RA
Technology) and 6 months (RA Media).
