The Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford has a number of studentships available for entry to the DPhil in Statistics in October 2015.  These include at least two EPSRC studentships and two Teaching Assistant Bursaries/Departmental  scholarships, of which one will be available to overseas applicants, and which cover both fees and subsistence.

Possible areas of research include:

1.            Computational statistics and statistical methodology (including Bayesian statistics; statistical machine learning; Monte Carlo methods; graphical models; causal inference; latent variable models; algebraic statistics).

2.            Applied probability (including stochastic analysis, especially problems related to population genetics; discrete random structures; models of random growth and percolation; Stein's method; network analysis).

3.            Statistical genetics and bioinformatics (including protein structure prediction and evolution; protein-protein interaction networks; computational biology; stochastic models of genealogies and sequence evolution; mathematical models of the origin of life; stochastic models of network evolution; statistical and population genetics, imaging-genetics).

Further information on the DPhil in Statistics and the MSc by Research in Statistics is available at www.stats.ox.ac.uk/prospective_students/research_degrees

Funded places are also available in the EPSRC & MRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generational Statistical Science: the Oxford-Warwick Statistical Programme.   www.stats.ox.ac.uk/prospective_students/research_degrees/oxwasp_-_the_oxford_warwick_statistics_programme.

The Department of Statistics will be represented at the Mathematical Sciences postgraduate open day on Wednesday 19 November from 1.30 pm.
