Dear all,

We are finalising our proposal for a data repository here at the OU and a question came up recently regarding the monitoring of datasets made public through repositories. We are specifically concerned that there may be legal issues involved in publishing unmonitored, un-peer reviewed data under the OU banner (for example, if published data hasn't been adequately prepared and contains personally identifiable information).

I wondered what (if any) processes other institutions have in place for checking datasets prior to publication? While we understand that checking datasets is a job best done by discipline specialists, we feel that it is unlikely that we'll be able to implement any kind of peer review process for datasets.

If anyone has any policies/processes in place for this, please do get in touch.
