The Imitation Game Cryptography Competition |
Win one of two signed posters from the film (and many more great prizes)!
To celebrate the forthcoming film The Imitation Game, starring Manchester Alumnus Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing, the School of Mathematics will be running a one-off cryptography competition. The competition is open to all residents of the United Kingdom. The competition is now open and closes at midday on the 28th November.
Competitors will be required to complete three cryptographic clues and discover the location of the Turing Treasure; winners will be drawn at random from all correct entries and prizes will be supplied by StudioCanal (including film posters, DVDs, soundtracks from the film and tickets to Bletchley Park).

Free online support and feedback for year 12 students
The University of Cambridge's Faculty of Mathematics has just launched a new, pilot project, funded by the DfE. The aim of the pilot is to provide free online support and feedback for students now in Year 12 who may want to apply to universities requiring the STEP exam (or the Oxford MAT) in Year 13. It is intended for students who would not otherwise receive much help with STEP.
This pilot online project will provide a series of fortnightly assignments through which participants are expected to work, starting in the January of Year 12 (January 2015 for the first cohort of participants). Participants will receive individual feedback for the entire duration of the project.
Students currently in Y12 at state-maintained schools/colleges or academies in the UK are eligible to apply. Applicants must currently be taking, or be intending to take, Further Mathematics at A-level (or equivalent).
For more information, and to apply, please see: http://maths.cam.ac.uk/about/community/stepcorrespondence.html.
The deadline for applications is Monday 1st December.
