25-27 November 2014: The Creative Futures Institute welcomes Professor Kumiko Kushiyama and her colleagues at Tokyo Metropolitan University’s IDEEA Lab to the University of the West of Scotland where they will lead a series of demonstration workshops in making interactive “Device Art”. The workshops will be held at our Paisley and Ayr campuses and will be accompanied by the IDEEA Lab’s multisensory art exhibition at Glasgow School of Art, Digital Design Studio at the Hub Pacific Quay. The exhibition will feature internationally awarded works such as Freqtric, Gocen, PocoPoco, Alphabet Sequencer, NAKANISYNTH and LuminouStep.

Workshops 

The workshops are aimed at students interested in prototype development. Using open source software, workshop participants will develop a musical instrument prototype, gaining knowledge of the essentials of developing electronic musical instruments using the tactile switch as well as practical skills in data sensor usage (Arduino system).

Location and details:

	• Workshop one – Tuesday 25th November, 2-5pm, Room D135, Paisley campus
	• Workshop two – Thursday 27th November, 2-5pm, Room GT28, Ayr campus
	• Requirements: Participants should have a general interest in device making/multimodal art and need to bring their own laptop (Mac or Windows).
	• Please note that you only need to attend and register for one workshop. Each workshop contains the same content.

The exhibition will take place on Wednesday 26th November 1-5 pm, Digital Design Studio, Glasgow School of Art at the Hub, Lab 1 and Boardroom, Pacific Quay. Glasgow, G51 1DZ. FREE entry.
