All,
When I was checking Pastscape against my HER a while back I found it easiest to print out the NMR/Pastscape records and have them on the desk next to me, binning them as I checked them off. I grew up with computers/PCs but still find it easier to deal with paper records, when cross referencing/comparing, than flicking between programs and screens on the PC.
In other words, I would prefer to have access to full printouts as well as any GIS/web layers.

In my mind’s eye, option 3 would have two ways of see the data on a map:
1. in an interactive map within the web site. The default view would show only records that had not yet been fully accessioned and signed off.
2. as GIS web services (WMS) that you would view within your own HER GIS (alongside your existing layers, making it very easy to see areas where it might be a high priority to integrate new data). The default view would show only records that had not yet been fully accessioned and signed off.
And maybe a third fall-back:
3. also provided as shapefiles, if anyone finds it hard to view GIS web services.

I would agree with that.
Another question regarding option 3 (sorry if someone's already asked/answered) - would the proposed website for the NRHE data have a map based element? This would make it much easier to cross reference records.

If going down the process of cross referencing, you may as well just update the HER record at the same time?

Following on from this Nick and definitely project related! -
Did those of you who have been undertaking some test reconciliation of records (yourself, Chris, Graham and Ben) find it easier or quicker if records already had been cross referenced with NRHE? Or did it make no difference? Would cross referencing need to be undertaken by HERs in advance of a solution like option 3 to make the project easier?
all the best
