Dear Rob,

I think that the interpretation is correct, there is a similar but larger and grander magazine Listed II* (List entry no. 1130838) at an old lead mine site in Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire (NGR NY9986303429). I am aware that some similar late-C18 magazines still exist in the USA.

Subject: Powder Magazine?

Hi,

We have an interesting structure located at the Astbury Limeworks and quarry which is reputedly a beehive powder magazine dating from the eighteenth century.

I’m wondering if someone knew anything about these structures and could confirm the interpretation. I’m also interested to know how rare surviving examples of these structures are.

Thanks and best wishes

Rob
