PROFESSOR OF EARTH/ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AND DIRECTOR OF THE EARTH 
RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) invites 
applications for the position of Full Professor and Director of the 
Earth Research Institute (ERI; <http://eri.ucsb.edu/>eri.ucsb.edu). 
Applicants should be internationally acclaimed scholars whose area of 
research falls within one or more of ERI's five research clusters 
(Earth System Science, Earth Evolution, Natural Hazards, Human 
Impacts on the environment, and Environmental Informatics).

The successful candidate is expected to continue his/her 
internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program, 
mentor graduate and undergraduate students, participate in on-going 
graduate and undergraduate teaching programs, and direct the Earth 
Research Institute. As the ERI Director, the candidate is expected to 
provide scientific and organizational leadership and foster an 
environment that inspires collaborations across a broad spectrum of 
researchers.  The ERI Director's position comes with a half-time 
teaching release and a stipend. The Director will have a permanently 
tenured faculty position in an appropriate academic department at 
UCSB. The appointment as ERI Director is for five years and is 
renewable for an additional five-year period. Further information is
