Well that's pretty clear Peter. Thanks. 'An emotional investment in the language'... ummm, what about an intellectual investment in the language or, thinking of David Hickman's post yesterday, an egotistical investment in the language?

I was at the Lyric and Polis thing John mentioned. Had a good day, especially when lots of wine appeared late into the afternoon. Can't remember too much about it but Denise Riley was terrific I enjoyed Catherine Wagner's stuff a lot too (at least I think it was her) and Sean Bonney's knock-about with Keston on lyrical violence or some-such was weird head-fun. Most of the in-depth discussions lost me after the first question though.

Some poetry is not lyrical, so do you mean that such poetry still has an element of lyric within it somewhere or do you mean that if it does not have that element then for you it is not poetry, or failed poetry?
