The aim of the course is for participants to develop a working and comprehensive knowledge of UK rights legislation and its practical application within the audiovisual sector.

 

Aimed at curators, archivists, librarians and other heritage professionals who work with archival film collections, the course will provide a structured model for the rights clearance process - from accessioning and due diligence, through to licensing and publication - and equip participants with the analytical tools, as well as confidence, to make key copyright decisions. The day will also include a ‘rights surgery’, an opportunity for participants to bring along moving image material for evaluation by experts.

 

The course covers:

 

·      Rights legislation in the UK, focusing on key dates and decisions.

·      The foundation for rights in/rights out: learning about copyrights types, issues and other common factors affecting the decision making process

·      Assessing and preparing copyright material for publication/licensing.
