Dementia: causes, treatments and social impact

From MICRA and Alzheimer’s Research UK

Thursday 19 February 2015

Speakers:

Currently, over 830,000 people in the UK live with dementia and this number will double in the next 30 years. Significant advances are being made in our understanding of the causes of dementia, in developing treatments and in helping individuals, their families and carers live well with dementia. This afternoon of short talks by leading experts will explore the causes of dementia, outline research that is being undertaken here in Manchester to understand and tackle dementia, explain the crucial role of clinical trials in dementia, and discuss the social impact that dementia has on individuals. Throughout the afternoon, we will highlight opportunities for people to get involved in studies to help us understand, live with and defeat dementia
