Convened by Katie Aston Goldsmith’s University

Outline
When working with human subjects, or with secondary sources and ideas that can have an impact on people’s lives, we need to be aware of what we write or put into the public domain. There are certain moral and ethical imperatives and guidelines we can follow, but in the end each researcher remains responsible for the decisions they make, and for the effect that their work might have on others. In this workshop we will look at some of the issues around the ethics of representation, including topics such as our relationship with participants, issues of power and consent, legality and morality. The sessions will be interactive, and will enable attendees to think critically and creatively about their own on-going research, or future research projects.

Schedule
10.00-10.30 Introductions and identifying the issues. Interactive sessions.

10.30-10.45 Professional guidelines and negotiating the ethics committee.
