Drug Matrix Bite 18: Performance feedback critical to workforce development
Face-to-face therapeutic encounters seem a long way from the management of the service, but whether therapies get adopted and well implemented, and whether staff develop and maintain appropriate attitudes and knowledge, depend on management and supervision.

The bite starts with the study which in British services identified the pervasive influence of the leader, then moves on to its major theme – the centrality of feedback to therapists on how well they and their patients are doing. As post-workshop coaching, it helps embed gains from training; in supervision systems, it alerts therapists to when they need to change tack with poorly progressing patients.
