Vacancy: Science and technical publications editor, EJR-Quartz for ESA, Noordwijk

EJR-Quartz BV is looking for a mother-tongue English editor to work in the European Space Agency’s (ESA) publications department. This post is for an initial 3-month period, four days a week onsite at ESTEC, Noordwijk.

Requirements

The requirement is for a mother-tongue English editor, with proven print publication editorial experience. Must have a degree in a related subject. The editor provides editorial and production support for scientific, engineering and other technical print publications including scientific productions, books, technical manuals and brochures for ESA directorates.

Tasks

Project managing publications from an initial meeting with the customer through to receiving the final printed production. This may include reviewing and providing feedback on images supplied for the publication, editing the text, ensuring the ESA style guide has been followed, 'sense' checking the text, checking at each stage of the layout and print production process that errors have not been incorporated.
Providing editorial support to colleagues in the communication department - including editing and reviewing promotional text, supporting other members of the publications team and other ESA writers as requested.

Skills

• Mother-tongue English, degree in English, communications or a science topic
• Print publication editorial experience
• Proven experience in scientific/technical and space topics an advantage
• Meticulous copy editing skills (British English)
• Well organised, with a structured approach
• Experience in working for an international organization
 
The successful candidate will work for ESA through EJR-Quartz.
