Free screening of Pink Ribbons Inc. Brighton Komedia on 12th November at 18.45

Why are people still dying of breast cancer?
What happens to money we raise for research?
Do "pink ribbon" products really help?
What are the problems with the use and abuse of the concept of empowerment in cáncer education campaigns?

If you want to find out about possible answers to these questions and learn more about the environmental causes of breast cancer and the business into which this dreadful disease has been turned, join us at Komedia on 12 November at 18.45 for a free screening of the thought-provoking documentary Pink Ribbons Inc. (2011). A discussion on taking real action on breast cancer epidemic and challenging pink ribbon culture in Brighton and beyond will follow.

Who we are: We are a new group of 4 Brighton-based women interested in breast cancer for different reasons. Our aim is to start a critical debate on the social, cultural, political and medical issues related to this disease.
One of us, Grazia De Michele, is an international partner of the Breast Cancer Consortium, an international network of scholars, advocates and artists, committed to change the conversation on breast cancer. She has recently co-edited a special issue of the Breast Cancer Consortium Quarterly “Demystifying Breast Cancer”, which reflects the lived experiences of women diagnosed with breast cancer in different parts of the world, from the United States to Belgium, Israel, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, belonging to different social classes and ethnic backgrounds, and with different sexual orientations.
