Hello.

One of my favourite smartphone apps is the New York Botanical Garden's Wild Medicine: Healing Plants Around the World.

It is elegant, simple and informative. It focuses on 15 medicinal plants in the Garden. Each plant has a marker near it that triggers a simple but effective augmented reality experience related to how the plant affects the body. Each plant also features photos, text, audio and a map.

What I really like about this app is that it uses technology in a smart - not over-the-top - way. It focuses on just 15 plants (not 100!). The content for each plant is consistent, concise and relevant. It is meant to connect people to the plants; it is not meant to connect people to their phones.

Subject: [MCG] Public gardens mobile apps / ipad tours / etc

Hello list,

I am having a look at innovation in the context of public gardens.

We all know well the amazing stuff coming from the digital team at Kew Gardens, but I'm not aware of much else.

If anyone in this list could provide any useful information about this context, it would be appreciated.

?Interest includes, but is not limited to, mobile apps, ipad tours, innovative web resources, online collections, open data, digital learning, etc...

Kind regards,

Giuseppe
