UKSG will be running two major events in November - the One-Day Conference on 20 Nov 2014 and the UKSG Forum on 21 Nov 2014. Organised over two consecutive days and held in the same central London venue but with a very different approach, these two separate events are designed to address key topical issues and allow delegates to meet with customers and suppliers. Our Autumn One-Day Conference provides our community with a more intimate opportunity for strategic dialogue. This year's event, 'Untying the knots and joining the dots: researchers' needs from funding to outputs and beyond' will offer a primer on unravelling the complexities of managing research from cradle to grave. Featuring presentations from expert speakers who come from funding bodies, universities and publishers, the conference offers you an opportunity to digest in full the implications of the fast changing research world. The day will be of particular value to librarians who are responsible for engaging with researchers and to publishers who want to better understand how researchers changing requirements will impact on them. Centred around a 50-stand exhibition featuring publishers, subscription agents, technology vendors and other industry players, it is primarily designed to bring together the scholarly information community and provide a context for customer updates, individual meetings and focus groups. For librarians and many other attendees, a key attraction of the Forum will be the programme of talks and presentations, and the approach here is completely different from UKSG's more established events. While the Conference aims to provide an extended 'gourmet feast' of in-depth content, the Forum offers a rich selection of appetisers, designed to tempt the palate without constraining discussion and exploration. The Forum is essentially a 'tapas' event, with 14 themed 30-minute sessions, each comprising two or three short lightning talks. The sessions are spread across three adjacent locations, with lengthy intervals between each, and are designed as stopping points along the exhibition rather than as a parallel feature. A wide range of topics will be covered including practical sessions on expanding library boundaries through social media and mobile technology and improving user experience of systems and products; first-hand reports of altmetrics, publishing innovations, change management projects and library systems; user accounts of optimising shared services and technologies; and updates on extending academic content beyond the academy via the Jisc NHS and SME pilots or the Access to Research project, now delivering ten million scholarly articles to public libraries. As a further undoubted attraction and in recognition of tight staff development budgets, the UKSG Forum is free to anyone working for a UKSG member organisation; there is a charge of £65 + VAT for delegates from non-member organisations (or become a UKSG member here<http://www.uksg.org/join>).
