Hi all, Further to this, can I ask if anyone HAS taken the decision to subscribe to RCN journals in lieu of their availability in CINAHL FT/ProQuest? I'd be very interested to know. Thanks. I have already said my piece on the RCN journals last year. At least I managed to get a good deal from Ovid for this current year. We will not be subscribing to anything published by RCN next year. I guess the RCN decided not to do what several of us suggested last year and make content available on CINAHL/FT and ProQuest with an embargo (preferably 3 months, but I'd settle for 6 or 12). Hi all, I've known about this for some time - not that it makes it any easier! - and my biggest issue is the price of subscribing to the titles. When we asked our agent for prices, there were incredibly costly, and I recall discussion on this list at the time where others said the same. So it's not simply a case of finding extra budget, but a LOT of extra budget. I seem to recall many institutions saying that they were just not going to take out a subscription. I would be interested to know if anyone has. It's also really interesting to note that RCN publishers aren't on the NHS framework mentioned earlier, as we have a number of students who can access NHS resources as well as ours due to the nature of their course of study/placements. And it's incredibly short notice, and at a time when many HE institutions will be extremely busy trying to sort out what to do about the subs they had with Swets. Do users really care about who they get there articles from? In my experience - not really. A few people will read a journal as and when it comes out but I reckon a majority of people will read an article from the journal when they are researching around a subject or referred to it from people who recommend it to them. So now we have deal direct with another publisher, set you up as another link on LinkResolver , make sure you're directly linked as publisher on Athens and go into a different administration site to see what use our users are doing before we decide on whether or not it is worth renewing for them next year - oh and I am responsible for 3 Trusts so I may have to do that three times. And if the linking isn't working, the site is down or the subscription isn't working I'll need to know that so I should be getting information from the publisher on top of that! And why doesn't my app work for the subscription.....aarggh! I welcome publishers wanting to give their readers the best possible experience - in the old days of print subscriptions - end users were definitely arm's length from the publisher - it is a move for the better - but what is the point of pulling it all back in to one interface only. You can't have been doing it for nothing to provide your journals to third party suppliers? The only thing I can see that is any advantage from this action is that the publisher doesn't have to employ a contracts manager to service third party agreements..... I also note, from a personal prospective - that RCN Publishing are not an electronic journal supplier on the NHS purchasing framework agreement https://www.evidence.nhs.uk/framework/nicefa/purchasing-toolkit/products-services - so it's not something easily purchased at regional or national level in the NHS. So, no, I don't regard this as a move to "enhance (our) users personal experience" Mr O'Rourke. It just is one further hurdle for me and my users to jump. Database and aggregation arrangements for RCN Publishing journals come to an end RCN Publishing announced today that it is ending its long standing arrangements to provide access to current full text journal content via third party database and aggregation services. The decision to end these arrangements is in keeping with RCN Publishing's policy to serve users directly, providing access via its own journals platform, Literatum from Atypon. The arrangement with OVID ended earlier in 2014 and access via EBSCO's database services finishes in November 2014. Agreements with both Cengage Learning and ProQuest ended in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Current full text content in RCN Publishing journals will only be available via RCN Publishing's own journal site at www.rcnpublishing.com<http://www.rcnpublishing.com>. Users will however still able to access back file content using their existing database subscriptions. Speaking of the agreement, Tony O'Rourke, Commercial Director, said "We want to give our users the best possible experience, regardless of where or how they may be working with our content; in the library, the classroom, the hospital ward or using our mobile enabled platform in the community. Our journal service provides the functionality required to support learning and further research such as HTML and PDF versions of articles, article level DOIs, reference linking and so much more.
