I’ve just come across What Next Culture <http://www.whatnextculture.co.uk/>
as a possible way of campaigning on issues like this, but haven’t yet
participated in it – has anyone, and if so can they recommend it?

I'm with Clare Adler on this one. Although there is the thought that people
have a right to choose whether to apply and to make informed choices

One further thought, will they be paid travel expenses on top - that at
least might be helpful.. otherwise it would take the wage down even further.

My observations seem to indicate that people are being offered far less for
thee kinds of roles than they were several years ago.. It's very concerning.

what campaigning is being/can be done within the sector?

Whilst I am in no way a fan of the way that anyone in our sector is
underpaid and undervalued, considering our experience, talent, dedication,
level of qualification, creativity and general superbness, the slightly
tarnished silver lining of this situation is that at least the applicant is
actually being offered some money for their work, instead of being expected
to volunteer their expertise, time, dedication, talent (see the list above)
for free.

That said, to meet the Living Wage of £7.65 would at least be a start.

Let’s remember our affirmations
<http://www.more-selfesteem.com/affirmations.htm> people! Say them with
me...

“My thoughts and opinions are valuable”

“I am a unique and special person and worthy of respect from others.”

“I deserve to be happy and successful”

Yours

Claire Adler spotted it first, of course.

The range of possible wages for zero-hours posts, generally in delivering
educational workshops or other content, is staggering. As well as the
guidance being prepared on suitable budgets for freelance contracts someone
could draw up some guidelines for acceptable levels of pay for zero-hours
contracts. Or perhaps abjure their use altogether?

Well done, Kim, for highlighting these disgracefully paid jobs.
