Should we really be grateful just for being paid money for working? There is a big difference between the volunteer roles we take on in life and those that we need to be paid for. This is being advertised as a paid job. Having wages like this stop the diversification of the workforce and undermines the skills and experience of staff. The range of possible wages for zero-hours posts, generally in delivering educational workshops or other content, is staggering. As well as the guidance being prepared on suitable budgets for freelance contracts someone could draw up some guidelines for acceptable levels of pay for zero-hours contracts. Or perhaps abjure their use altogether?
