With regard to the extra time,  I believe the regulations now state that a flat 25% extra time should be given as opposed to “up to” 25% extra time.  So I don’t think 10%, 15% etc is applicable anymore.

Subject: Extra time and Readers

Hi All

Once again a question arises with reference to Access Arrangements that the mighty orange book cannot answer for me!!

I am aware that if a candidate is entitled to 25% extra time and a reader they will also be entitled to up to a maximum of 50% extra time where a reader is not permitted i.e. functional skills English reading exam. However, this year we are detailing specific amounts of extra time for our learners e.g. 10%, 15% etc. This is also the case with our students who are entitled to a reader, due to the statement “However, where a candidate is entitled to a reader there is not an automatic entitlement to 25% extra time”.

So… where we have a candidate who is entitled to a reader but is only entitled to 10% extra time (for example), we are unsure as to what amount of extra time they would be entitled to if the reader was not allowed?

My presumption would be that the candidate would have to be tested both with and without a reader and the extra time informed by this, however, I am not positive about this. Has anyone come across this problem and what do you do about it?

Thanks in advance.
