Hi Martin
I would say the board would have to call for a further sample to moderate and either uphold the previous moderator’s decisions or not. The fact that the original sample meant an adjustment for the cohort is a reflection on the standard of marking across the cohort not just those who were part of the sample – in theory that would mean that another sample would produce the same result.
It is a shame that they lost the original sample but I wouldn’t say it was grounds for an inflated result I’m afraid.
Happy Friday!

Subject: Lost Coursework
I have been contacted by a local school regarding lost coursework.
Basically, the situation is as follows:
We had 5 year 13 students complete coursework for AQA ICT. All 5 were included in the sample sent to the moderator. We disagreed with the moderated marks and applied for a review of moderation stating that we had not received the coursework back from the moderator. It now looks like AQA/moderator/Parcelforce has lost the coursework.
Where do we stand on this? Do they award all the students an A*?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
