I do not speak for the Cochrane Collaboration, only for myself.

I am the authors of scores of reviews (I've lost count of the number of updates I've done in the last 20 years).

My job as a reviewer is to look at the evidence following Cochrane rules which are evolving. It is not to stick up for X or Y or takes sides in conflicts.

If you think this is easy I may share with you my "fan mail", the electronic stalking, the personal attacks and the attempted ambushes I have been subjected to.

Enojy the rest of the debate.

Tom.

Thank you Mohammed and Tom.

Over the years I have realised that my concern is taken up as an academic issue.

However, as a GP am expected to vaccinate every child and might be responsible for a worse outcome (NCD) than intended!

Mohammed, you actually put the finger on the missing research: "the way research is designed, questions, asked, outcome pre-defined do not always capture evidence (or lack thereof) over a life time."

Indeed "No Trials" is the issue. It is obvious that research on harm from vaccines is systematically not done. It is obvious that research comparing NCD in populations that are not vaccinated with vaccinated groups is also systematically not done. It is obvious that the nutrition and hygiene etc are not trumpeted as the reason for the reduction in mortality and morbidity from acute infectious diseases.

NCD increase is becoming a world wide health issue. The WHO, UNICEF, Public health departments are currently riding the wave of the vaccine industry who are now focusing on the developing countries.

I can understand that politicians can be taken in, but take issue with The Cochrane Collaboration if they stick to "All Trails" and ignore No Trials! As such, Cochrane is spoon fed by the industry just like the politicians.

The question whether vaccines might ultimately be the "environmental factor" that is causing the shift from acute infectious diseases to endemic chronic Non-Communicable diseases is not an academic issue but a humanitarian issue.

If not Cochrane, who can stand up for the children of the world and start addressing this question?
