Don't ask me Amy, that is what I asked Wouter for!

I very strongly agree with you regarding the harmful effects of unsubstantiated theories being bandied about in this way.

cheers

Douglas

Dear Juan and Douglas,

Can you share in what amount these problems occur in the population per side effect as other wise it generates fear and anti vax sentiments in the general population who respond to such theory or general information by refusing all vaccination and putting the population at risk? I agree the public should have all the information  to make informed decision but when this information is given in abstract ways the risk is artificially magnified especially when picked up by external media sources. In 1000 persons vaccinated how many will suffer these side effects and is does the risk outweigh the benefit?

Thanks,
Amy

There is an effective vaccine against Q fever, however it has significant side effects in persons who have already had Q fever.

-around the long term safety we need to remember that medical interventions just change (in their best) the cause of death
-we, physicians, do not "save lives", we just "change causes of death"
-so vaccines have for itself, because they avoid some acute causes of death, the "long term side effect of increasing chronic diseases and other causes of death"
-by the way, vaccines as againts measles and rubella have an unexpected long term side effects, as vaccinated pregnant women have lower level of antibodies
Children of mothers vaccinated against measles and rubella have lower concentrations of maternal antibodies.

Wouter, what evidence do you have that vaccines cause non-communicable diseases?

Thank you Mohammed and Tom.

Over the years I have realised that my concern is taken up as an academic issue.

However, as a GP am expected to vaccinate every child and might be responsible for a worse outcome (NCD) than intended!

Mohammed, you actually put the finger on the missing research: "the way research is designed, questions, asked, outcome pre-defined do not always capture evidence (or lack thereof) over a life time."

Indeed "No Trials" is the issue. It is obvious that research on harm from vaccines is systematically not done. It is obvious that research comparing NCD in populations that are not vaccinated with vaccinated groups is also systematically not done. It is obvious that the nutrition and hygiene etc are not trumpeted as the reason for the reduction in mortality and morbidity from acute infectious diseases.

NCD increase is becoming a world wide health issue. The WHO, UNICEF, Public health departments are currently riding the wave of the vaccine industry who are now focusing on the developing countries.

I can understand that politicians can be taken in, but take issue with The Cochrane Collaboration if they stick to "All Trails" and ignore No Trials! As such, Cochrane is spoon fed by the industry just like the politicians.

The question whether vaccines might ultimately be the "environmental factor" that is causing the shift from acute infectious diseases to endemic chronic Non-Communicable diseases is not an academic issue but a humanitarian issue.

If not Cochrane, who can stand up for the children of the world and start addressing this question?
