1. Participative Research and Policy: research use, relevance and impact

Learn in this online course about researchers, service users and others doing and using research together for better public services and civil society.

This course runs for 15 weeks from 14 January 2015. The deadline for applications is 8 December 2014.

This course will enable you to involve policy makers, practitioners and service users in doing and using research. You will work with other students and the course leader, to critically engage with the latest theories and debates about the relevance and application of research findings for policy, practice and personal decisions. 

The course is designed for people seeking a critical understanding of research impact and public engagement and for people in public or voluntary sector organisations that are, or aspire to become, research informed. On successful completion of this course you will be able to plan how to conduct and use research collaboratively.

2. Systematic reviews for policy and practice: conducting and using reviews

In this course you will learn in tutor-led workshops on 17-18 March and 14-15 April 2015, with self-directed study before and between workshops. The deadline for applications is 9 February.

The course will enable you to conduct and appraise systematic reviews. On completion, you will be familiar with the strengths and limitations of systematic reviews and have a critical appreciation of evidence-informed policy and practice. Participation includes access to our specialised systematic review software EPPI-Reviewer.

3. MSc in Research for public policy and practice

Learn about reviewing and using research

Enrolment for January 2015 is now open. Studentship opportunities are available. The deadline for January 2015 applications is 17 November 2014.

This MSc will equip you with conceptual and practical skills for conducting and appraising systematic reviews and evaluating the potential for and implementation of evidence-informed policy. Students can learn at a distance using a combination of online group and individual activities. You will receive support from experienced course tutors at mutually arranged times and written feedback on draft work. Students carry out activities at their own pace and at times of their own choosing, but are asked to complete specified tasks to set deadlines.

A number of the MSc modules are also taught using face-to-face sessions for students who prefer this style of learning. All the modules can also be taken as stand-alone courses with or without credit at Masters level. All are quality assured by the Institute of Education at the University of London.
