Ahh apologises for the confusion, just remember going from one park to another gas monitoring as a lot of parks are former landfills in Trafford to some degree, guess over time they do tend mould together!

Dear all,

My tongue in cheek photos seems to have generated a little seriousness for a Friday afternoon, so I thought I better bring it back to reality. The park is a lovely little park in Sale called Walton Park (M33 4AT), where you can sit (adults have to be accompanied by children) on a miniature train every Sunday for the mighty sum of 30p and go round and round the block twice (http://www.waltonparktrains.co.uk/)!

Michael's e-mail got me thinking, but checked the old maps and this was a greenfield site, so no landfill. The signpost was to stop terrible boys and girls having a kick around on the pristine greens (and possibly swigging cider in the pavilion with their dog on a string in the evenings). The only bit of activity which appears to have happened on around this site was the crashing of a Wellington Bomber in 1943 which had been on a training mission with 2 fatalities, on the area which are now football pitches (luckily missing the bowling club - est. 1942). The crash site was an allotment at the time as part of the "Dig for Victory".

I was a bit sneaky when I took the photo as a group of old dears had just finished defying the signage and were playing bowls with wanton disregard!

I used to be CLO at Trafford.

If this is the park I think it is, it's a former landfill.

Not Friday yet, but thought members maybe interested in a new risk assessment for areas of public open space!!! Well done Trafford Council - saw this on a nice sunny day in the park! Sorts out the risk of direct contact.
