Depending on the use of the building it may not be the HSE who are the enforcing authority for CAR and it may the local council

Hi James

As a fire proofing material, asbestos is commonly present in ceilings and sometimes walls in the context of pre-fab buildings. In the 1940's use of asbestos wasn't particularly common, but any improvement and/or renovation is likely to have led to later introduction.

Look out also for fibrous boarding around electrical and heating installations - stoves, boilers etc and artex type coatings generally.

You might also bear in mind that HSE regs historically and currently place no duty on a residential householders/owners to identify, manage and/or control asbestos.

Kind regards

Ruth

Subject: Asbestos Loose Fill??

Came across these images of a 1940 prefab constructed building. Obviously given the age and construction of the building there are asbestos issues. However I was quite concerned to see the cavity fill blowing around the site. It looks very similar to loose asbestos fill used in floor and wall voids.
What do others think? The HSE were not concerned and the material has not been tested.
