Tenders are invited for a Consultant Archivist to catalogue the archive backlog of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) held by the Wellcome Library and contribute to its deployment as a public resource.

 

A qualified archivist with relevant professional experience is sought for this project.

 

The successful applicant will be engaged as a self-employed consultant, financed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and based at the Wellcome Library, Euston Road, London.

 

The completion of the project is estimated at 20 weeks and can be worked on a full-time or part-time basis. The start date is negotiable although project commencement before the end of 2014 is desirable.

 

The appointed consultant will liaise with CSP officials, other staff, persons and institutions as appropriate. The Wellcome Library will provide supervisory support, office facilities, infrastructure and packaging and preservation materials.

 

 

Detailed Position Description:

 

Position Title:                           Archivist (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy collection)

 

Location:                                 Wellcome Library, 183 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE

 

Length of Position:                  20 weeks

 

Organisational Relationships: Working within the Special Collections Department, liaising closely with the Archives Project Manager to ensure data consistency

 

Main Duties:

 

1.    To appraise, sort, arrange and catalogue (using Axiell Calm software) the uncatalogued archives of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy that have been presented to the Wellcome Library since 2000 and which form additions to the existing catalogued archive.

2.    To integrate the additional material into the structure of the existing catalogue and to create new sections of the catalogue where necessary.

3.    To develop and maintain a cataloguing schedule, to liaise regularly with, and report to, the Archivist overseeing the project and to provide progress reports to the CSP, as required.

4.    To ensure data quality and compliance with Wellcome Library specifications and national and international standards, including ISAD(G), AACR2, MeSH and LCSH.

5.    To handle personal data in accordance with UK data protection legislation and the corporate policies of both the CSP and the Wellcome Trust. In particular, to implement the Wellcome Library’s access policy Access to personal data within our research collections, including undertaking risk assessments and reviews for data protection and other ethical considerations. Applying appropriate restriction or closure periods where applicable.

6.    To re-house the records in preservation-quality folders and boxes, carrying out basic preservation tasks, identifying any items which require professional intervention or non-standard packaging, and liaising with the Wellcome Library’s Conservation and Preservation Department, as appropriate.

7.    To undertake appropriate activities to publicise the newly catalogued archives, such as through the preparation of blog posts.

8.    To read and comply with Wellcome Trust Health & Safety Policy, Information Security Policy and any other relevant policies and procedures.

9.    To undertake any other relevant duties that may be required from time to time.
