The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Library & Archives Service would like to announce a forthcoming one-day conference on HIV/AIDS archive collections in the UK. The conference will be held on 5th December 2014 in the Manson Lecture Theatre at the School. 

The purpose of the conference is to introduce the research community to the various different archive collections held in the United Kingdom; how they were created, their historical significance and explore avenues of research and outreach opportunities within the field. The conference also celebrates the end of the Wellcome funded project to catalogue and preserve seven HIV/AIDS related collection held at the School.

The conference will feature a keynote lecture by Professor Virginia Berridge on her work documenting the contemporary history of HIV/AIDS policy in the UK in the AIDS Social History Programme (1988-1994) and will be joined by archivist Janet Foster, who helped construct the archives for the programme. 

 A roundtable seminar discussing and presenting the various HIV/AIDS collections held in the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine; Lothian Health Archives, University of Edinburgh;  London School of Economics and the Wellcome Library. 

The afternoon session will feature papers presenting new ways of viewing and accessing archives. Papers to be delivered include a talk on how a community HIV/AIDS archive was constructed and its relationship to institutional archives; outreach through community engagement with people living with HIV/AIDS and a final paper on the use of archives for epidemiological mapping of infectious disease epidemics. 

The final session will feature a video presentation of a selection of HIV/AIDS short films and a panel discussion chaired by Professor Kaye Wellings. She will be joined by Dr Alex Mold and Dr Catherine Dodds in discussion on how public health campaigns have evolved and the continuities and changes that has occurred in this format over the last thirty years.
