Two postdoctoral positions available to study Albugo candida/Arabidopsis interactions at The Sainsbury Laboratory (Norwich)

Applications will be reviewed from 13th October 2014

Two 36 month BBSRC funded post-doctoral positions are available in the group of Professor Jonathan Jones to study Albugo candida/Arabidopsis interactions.

Postdoc 1 will carry out infection assays, RenSeq (resistance gene enrichment followed by Illumina sequencing), CrispR/Cas9 and gene isolation methods to define new white rust resistance (WRR) genes in Arabidopsis to diverse races of Albugo candida.

Postdoc 2 will use comparative genomics on 7 sequenced Albugo races, and transient co-expression or bombardment assays, to identify additional A. candida effectors recognised by specific cloned WRR genes. Once these effectors are defined, PD2 will investigate mechanisms of recognition and action.

Candidates should be highly motivated individuals with a PhD degree together with a background in plant molecular biology, genetics, phytopathology or a closely related field. Salary will be within the UEA Research and Analogous staff Grade 7 scale at between £31,342 and £37,394 per annum. Appointment level will reflect qualifications, skills, knowledge and achievements.
