Dear colleague,

We would like to let you know that the 2015 dates for all statistics courses organised by the ICH Centre for Applied Statistics Courses (CASC) have just been announced and registration is now open for all these new dates, from September 2014 to July 2015. Please visit our website to view all the new dates and proceed with registration. Below you will find the dates for all courses until December 2014.

22 September to 26 September: Stats & research methods – 10am to 4.30pm – £650 (early bird)

A 5 day course aimed at statistical amateurs or people that are a bit rusty with their stats and want a statistical refresher course. You will  learn all about confidence intervals, p-values and the most commonly used statistical significance tests. This is a very popular course and books up very quickly so book early to avoid disappointment

29 + 30 September: Intro to R – 10am to 3.00pm – £200

A two days’ hands-on course where delegates are introduced to the excellent, free statistical software R and its use for statistical analysis

1 October: Sample size estimation and power calculations– 10am to 4.30pm – £140

A hands-on one-day course showing delegates how to choose the right sample size for their projects or evaluate the power/precision of pre-set sample sizes.

2 October: Intro to SPSS – 10am to 4.30pm – £150

A one day hands-on course introducing beginners to SPSS and its use for statistical analysis.

9 October: Intro to Reliability Validity 10am to 4.30pm – £62.50 (Introductory price)

This course will equip you with the knowledge of how to assess validity and reliability for various types of outcomes and study designs (measures such as Kappa, ICC and Bland-Altman limits will be extensively discussed).

14,16 +17 October:  Intro to statistics with R - 10am to 4.30pm - £400

A 3-days’ course introducing the basic principles of statistics (summaries, confidence intervals, p-values, significance tests) along with an introduction to R and its applications for statistical analysis.

20 October: Bayesian analysis – 10am to 4.30pm – £125

An introductory course on the alternative methodological approach of data analysis (Bayesian statistics) and its use and interpretation in research.

23+24 October: Regression analysis – 10am to 3.00pm – £175

A two days’ 10am-3pm days course exploring general regression principles with extensive focus on linear regression with SPSS application (which is extensible to other packages too).

30 October: Logistic regression – 10am to 4.30pm – £125

A one-day course exploring the ins and outs of logistic regression, i.e. when appropriate, its mechanism, how to interpret and report; with brief extension to ordinal and multinomial logistic regression.

31 October: Critical appraisal - 10am to 4.30pm – £125

An excellent full day refresher course of fundamental statistical principals imperative when reading and/or critically appraising papers and their link to critical appraisal checklists.

3 November: Intro to Survival/time-to-event data analysis- 10am to 3.00pm – £100

A 10am till 3pm course looking into ways of analysing time-to-event data (aka survival data), including Kaplan-Meier plots and Cox-regression.

5 + 6 November: Regressions with R – 10am to 3.00pm – £200

This is a two half-days hands-on workshop looking at various modeling procedures in R such as linear and logistic regressions, providing delegates with all required skills to understand how to fit these models and more in R

8 December: ANOVA/GLMs using SPSS – 10am to 4.30pm – £150
If you have always wondered about the General Linear Model (GLM) option on SPSS and/or wanted to clarify the difference between the many types of ANOVAs, then this is the right course for you. Via a full day hands-on teaching session in a computer room, you will be able to find the answers to the above questions and more.

8 + 9 December: Intro to dealing with missing data– 10am to 4.30pm – £175

A one-day course (with an optional hands-on SPSS 2nd day) introducing various (bad and good) methods of dealing with missing data with emphasis on multiple imputation.

Please note that interested parties can only register via the UCL onlinestore (each course has to be registered separately). Expression of interest via email is not considered a registration, so please avoid this method.

We would appreciate it if you could circulate this email within your departments or other interested parties.

We look forward to seeing more of you (if you have already been at one of our courses) or meeting you for first time!

Kind regards,

Eirini
