Does anyone else see the irony in Records Managers using the RM listserv, still - in 2014?

not really. Yahoo has Yahoo groups and Google has google groups both are similar in functionality to listserv. What would replace the listserv?

With its sheer inability to filter the content, or preserve the really good stuff posted here - for posterity.

listserv is a delivery mechanism. it is up to the individual to set up filters to delete what they never want to see, such as out of office messages. as for preservation I agree that listserv keeps the dreck with the diamonds, but who would be responsible for deleting out the dreck and do they have the time? As i see it the listserv documents how this group interacts with each other, but isn't that one of the purposes of an archives ? "a collection of historical documents or records providing information about a place, institution, or group of people."

It beggars belief, non?
not really. I follow well over 100 RIM related blogs and over 100 folks on twitter neither is as efficient in delivering information to me as the listserv is

So much better software we must have to pick from. There are so many better ways to present and preserve this content, and manage our respective wheat to chaff ratios.

and what would that software be?

The emails are frankly out of control.

not really
