Hi all I'm just wondering if anyone has every come across a similar type of environment and if so what solutions they found practical? The task is adding calcium carbonate to a water treatment "house" from 1 tonne bags; the bags are placed where the delivery company place them and stay there as the ground is not suitable for a small fork lift or mechanised pump truck. Currently the calcium carbonate is moved from the bags to the input sieve manually using a 3 litre scoop...... the caretaker usually waits until the last minute and will then transfer 2-3 tonnes over the course of day. As he empties a bag he has to bend down to scoop from the bottom of them. Once a bag is empty he has to then walk to and from the next nearest bag with his scoop.... as he gets through the bags the bags can be up to 3 meters away on the sloped part. The environment is a small water treatment plant on a hillside in a very rural location with poor access for plant vehicles. The ground is uneven cracked poured concrete and sloped. Another poured concrete slap is used to provide a level surface for the entry sieve but where it joins the main slab it is uneven and broken with loose soil etc in patches. They used to use smaller 25kg bags and have them up on a pulley suspended over the entry point but that was discontinued as the 25kg bags stopped being manufactured as far as I understand.
