Hi all
Apologies for the cross-posting
Announcing our first NetworkED for the 2014/15 academic year, we are welcoming Josie Fraser to the LSE on Wednesday 22nd October at 5pm. Entitled ‘Digital Literacy in Practice: Making Change Happen’, Josie's talk will focus on
the approach and results of the DigiLit Leicester project, a partnership between the Council, De Montfort University, and 23 secondary schools. Over the last two years, the project has developed a shared definition of what digital literacy looks like situated
in professional practice, identified strengths and gaps across the city, and been instrumental in developing confidence across Leicester’s secondary and specialist education schools workforce. The project is a partnership between the Council, De Montfort
University, and 23 secondary schools. In September 2013, the project achieved recognition as one of five global winners of the Reclaim Open Learning innovation 2013 competition, organised by the MacArthur Foundation, The Digital Media and Learning Hub, and
MIT Media Lab.
She will provide an overview of the development of the DigiLit Leicester project, and outline the ways in which the project has engaged and worked with school staff across the city. The key strengths of the project will be outlined: an
at-scale, personalised and situated approach to digital literacy; a focus on co-production as a method for individual and organisational development and change; and a commitment to Open Education approaches to support sustainable practice. Findings from the
2014 DigiLit Leicester survey (completed by 701 city staff members) will be discussed.
Josie Fraser (@josiefraser) is a UK-based Social and Educational Technologist. Since June 2010, she has lead on technology for Leicester City Council's £340 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme. In addition to leading
on ICT for the schools building programme, she is responsible for setting, promoting and delivering on a city wide agenda for educational transformation in relation to the use of technology within schools.
